Choosing the Right Band Profile

Before style or stones, the first decision is the profile — the cross-section shape of the metal where it meets your finger. It is the single biggest factor in how a band feels through a long day, and it is the detail most couples overlook. VYKA produces three profiles:

  • Court profile — gently rounded on both the inside and outside. The most popular choice in the UAE because it sits softly against the skin and suits almost everyone.
  • Flat profile (often called flat court when the inside is rounded) — a clean, contemporary squared-off outer edge. Favoured for sharper, more architectural looks and for men who want a defined band.
  • Comfort-fit — a domed interior that reduces contact with the finger, so the ring glides on and off and tolerates the slight finger swelling that comes with a humid Gulf climate. We recommend it for anyone who has never worn a ring daily, and for wider men's bands from 5mm upward.

If you are unsure, ask for a comfort-fit court band — it is the most forgiving combination for everyday wear in this region.

Plain Bands and Diamond-Set Bands

Wedding bands divide broadly into two families, and many couples mix the two across his and hers.

  • Plain polished band — smooth 18K gold or platinum with no stones. Quietly elegant, the easiest to maintain, and the simplest to resize later. The default for most men's bands.
  • Milgrain band — a fine beaded edge runs along the rim, giving a heritage, vintage-inspired character without any diamonds.
  • Pavé band — a single row of small diamonds is bead-set along the top face, adding light without making the ring feel heavy.
  • Channel-set band — round diamonds or baguettes sit flush between two protective walls of metal. Snag-free and clean, which makes it practical for hands-on daily life.
  • Half-eternity band — diamonds cover the front-facing half of the ring only. You get the full sparkle when looking down at your hand, the comfort of plain metal underneath, and far easier resizing.
  • Full-eternity band — diamonds continue unbroken around the entire circumference. The most luminous option and a favourite for milestone anniversaries, with the trade-off that it cannot be resized.
  • Shaped band — contoured to nest perfectly against an existing engagement ring so the two sit flush with no gap.

Eternity versus half-eternity is the question we are asked most. A full eternity band is unmatched for brilliance but is fixed in size, so order it only once your finger size is settled. A half-eternity gives you most of the visual impact, sits more comfortably against the palm, and leaves room for future adjustment — the practical choice for a ring you will wear without removing.

Men's and Women's Bands

There is no fixed rule for width, but most VYKA clients in the UAE land in a familiar range. Women's bands are commonly 2mm–2.5mm, slim enough to pair flush with an engagement ring. Men's bands usually fall between 4mm and 5mm, with statement widths of 6mm and above for those who prefer a bolder presence. The right width is partly proportion — a broad band can overwhelm a slim finger — and partly habit, since a wider ring feels more substantial through the day.

His-and-Hers Matching Sets

Designing both rings together means the proportion, metal tone, and finish are aligned from the very first sketch rather than reconciled afterwards. UAE couples tend toward one of three approaches:

  • A truly identical pair — same metal, width, profile, and finish, simply scaled to each finger. The clearest expression of a matched set.
  • A coordinated pair — the groom's band wider and plain, the bride's narrower with a line of pavé or a half-eternity, both cut from the same metal so they read as a set.
  • A shared signature — the rings differ in width and style but carry one repeated element: the same milgrain edge, the same two-tone mix, or the same engraved phrase inside both bands.

Inside-Band Engraving, Including Arabic Calligraphy

Interior engraving is included at no extra cost on every VYKA wedding band, and it is the touch couples treasure most because only the two of you ever see it. We engrave on the inner surface so the outside stays clean:

  • Each other's names, or initials.
  • The wedding or Melka date — in Gregorian or Hijri format.
  • A short phrase, a verse, a coordinate, or a private word.
  • Arabic calligraphy — names and dates rendered in a flowing Arabic script, which is among our most requested options across the Emirates. Because Arabic letterforms need more vertical space than Latin text, we confirm the exact layout with you and check it fits the chosen band width before any engraving is cut.

A short note on space: plain and milgrain bands offer the most room. On pavé and channel bands the engraving area is narrower, and on a full-eternity band there is no plain interior to engrave at all, so tell us at the design stage if engraving matters to you.

Metals That Suit the Gulf Climate

Daily wear in the UAE means high temperatures, humidity, chlorinated pool water, sunscreen, and the fine grit of desert air. Metal choice matters more here than in cooler climates.

  • Platinum — naturally white, dense, and highly durable. It does not need re-plating, it is hypoallergenic, and it ages into a soft satin patina rather than losing colour. The most resilient choice for a ring you will never take off, and our top recommendation for an everyday band.
  • 18K white gold — the most popular metal among UAE clients. It is rhodium-plated to achieve its bright white finish; that plating gradually wears with daily contact and benefits from re-plating roughly every 12 to 24 months to keep it crisp. Easy to maintain and straightforward to refresh.
  • 18K yellow gold — warm, traditional, and a long-standing favourite for Gulf weddings. It needs no plating and holds its colour permanently.
  • 18K rose gold — a distinctive pink hue from its copper content, increasingly chosen for contemporary and two-tone designs.

A practical habit for any metal: take the ring off before swimming, as chlorine and salt water are hard on alloys over time, and rinse off sunscreen and perfume residue with warm water and a soft brush every few weeks to keep diamonds bright.

Where UAE Couples Buy Wedding Bands

There are three broad routes to a wedding band in the Emirates, and each suits a different kind of buyer.

  • The traditional gold markets — the Dubai Gold Souk in Deira and the Sharjah Central Souk (the Blue Souk) are the place for bullion-weight gold and ready-made bands you can try on the same day. They are excellent for plain gold, less suited to certified diamond work or fully bespoke matched sets.
  • The mall jewellers — counters in The Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, and Yas Mall in Abu Dhabi offer a polished in-person experience and recognised brand names, generally at a premium that reflects retail floor space and high-street overheads.
  • Certified made-to-order, like VYKA — you choose the profile, metal, and stones; review the design before anything is cast; receive every diamond with its IGI or GIA certificate; and have the finished rings delivered insured to your address. You trade same-day collection for a band built precisely to your specification, without the retail-floor overhead of a mall showroom.

When to Order Before the Wedding

Every VYKA band is made to order, so timing matters. Production takes 10-14 business days at our Dubai workshop, and insured in-UAE delivery adds 1-3 business days after dispatch. We recommend placing your order at least four to six weeks ahead of the date to leave a comfortable buffer for sizing confirmation, engraving approval, and any final adjustment. For a wedding, an Eid celebration, an anniversary, or a National Day gift with a fixed date, tell us the deadline in your first consultation and we plan the schedule backwards from it.

Sizing and Resizing

Getting the size right the first time is more important for a wedding band than for almost any other ring, because you will rarely take it off. We provide a printable VYKA sizer and a sizing guide during consultation, and you can also be measured at any jeweller across the Emirates. A few pointers that matter in this climate: measure your finger at the end of the day when it is at its largest, avoid measuring straight after exercise or a flight, and remember that fingers run slightly larger in the summer heat.

On resizing: a plain band can typically be adjusted up to about half a size in either direction. Diamond-set designs are far more constrained — the stones fix the structure — so a full-eternity band cannot be resized at all, and channel and pavé bands have limited room. For any diamond-set design, ordering the correct size from the outset is essential, which is why we take sizing slowly before production begins.

Once your band is complete, it ships by insured courier to any address in the country — Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Umm Al Quwain, and Al Ain — typically arriving within 1-3 business days of dispatch. Because this is domestic delivery, there are no customs formalities and no fees at the door. Dubai clients are welcome to arrange a visit to the workshop by appointment while their rings are in production.
