Diamond Engagement Rings in Dubai
A certified diamond engagement ring in Dubai starts at AED 2,005, with a one-carat centre stone from AED 2,240 lab-grown or AED 7,950 natural — VAT and customs already inside the number. Dubai is the largest rough diamond trading hub on earth, which is genuinely relevant to what you pay, though not in the way most people assume. This page explains what a ring actually costs here, and how to tell a fair quote from a poor one.

What an engagement ring costs in Dubai
The centre stone sets the floor and the setting sets the rest. Below is our published dirham table — the lower figure is the cheapest complete ring at that weight in live stock, the upper figure is where three-quarters of our rings at that weight sit at or below.
| Centre stone | Lab-grown, IGI certified (AED) | Natural, GIA certified (AED) |
|---|---|---|
| 1.00 ct | 2,240 – 5,130 | 7,950 – 13,445 |
| 1.50 ct | 2,730 – 6,090 | 15,910 – 31,890 |
| 2.00 ct | 4,390 – 7,350 | 34,020 – 61,590 |
| 2.50 ct | 5,290 – 9,900 | 44,030 – 71,590 |
| 3.00 ct | 7,990 – 12,050 | 57,680 – 82,950 |

Are diamonds actually cheaper in Dubai?
Partly, and it is worth being precise about which part, because the reputation is mostly built on gold rather than diamonds.
On duty, Dubai genuinely is favourable. Loose diamonds enter duty-free, and rough diamonds carrying a Kimberley Process certificate are exempt from the 5% duty that otherwise applies to imported goods on their landed value. That is a real structural advantage over most markets.
But two things cancel a good deal of it at the retail counter. The 5% UAE VAT still applies to a finished piece of jewellery. And — the part that matters far more — there is no published daily diamond rate. Gold has one: the Department of Economic Development runs outdoor signs displaying Dubai's live retail gold rate, so any shop's gold price can be checked against a public number within seconds. Nothing equivalent exists for diamonds. The trade's own reference, the Rapaport list, is weekly and available only by subscription to the trade.
So a gold price in Dubai is disciplined by a number on a public sign. A diamond price is disciplined only by how well you can read the stone's certificate. That is the entire difference, and it is why the next section matters more than the duty question.
One carat is not one price
This is the most useful table on this page, and it is our live stock rather than an illustration. Every stone below weighs about one carat. The prices run from AED 1,965 to AED 14,690 — more than seven times — and every one of them is a certified one-carat diamond.
| Stone | Weight | Colour | Clarity | Price (AED) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lab-grown marquise | 1.01 | H | VVS2 | 1,965 |
| Lab-grown round | 1.02 | F | VVS1 | 2,534 |
| Natural pear | 1.01 | I | VS2 | 5,321 |
| Natural pear | 1.01 | D | SI1 | 5,608 |
| Natural oval | 1.00 | I | VVS2 | 6,162 |
| Natural pear | 1.01 | D | SI1 | 7,128 |
| Natural pear | 1.01 | D | SI1 | 8,344 |
| Natural round | 1.00 | E | VS2 | 14,690 |
Loose certified stones in live stock, before the setting. Prices delivered, VAT and customs included.
Look at rows four, six and seven. Three pear-shaped natural diamonds, all 1.01 carat, all Colour D, all Clarity SI1 — at AED 5,608, AED 7,128 and AED 8,344. Identical on every specification a shop is likely to quote at you, and forty-nine per cent apart in price.
The difference is in the two things buyers are least often shown. One is the cut grade — how well the stone was actually cut, which governs how it returns light and is the single largest driver of how a diamond looks. The most expensive of those three carries an Excellent cut grade; the cheapest states no cut grade at all. The other is which laboratory graded it: our stock is graded by IGI, GIA and HRD, and those laboratories are not interchangeable in how strictly they apply the same letters.
This is why "one carat, D colour, SI1 clarity" is not a price. Anyone quoting you a diamond on carat, colour and clarity alone has left out the two variables that explain a 49% spread on our own shelf.

Dubai is the world's largest rough diamond hub — and what that means for you
This is not marketing. The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre was established by decree on 1 May 2002 and now houses more than 26,000 companies. Its Dubai Diamond Exchange, established in 2004 and based at Almas Tower in Jumeirah Lakes Towers, is the only bourse in the entire GCC affiliated with the World Federation of Diamond Bourses, holds an Executive Committee seat within it, and is home to more than 1,300 gem enterprises.
The volumes are substantial. Diamond trade through Dubai reached a record USD 41.7 billion across 359.5 million carats in 2025 — up 16.2% in value on 2024 and surpassing the previous record of USD 40.9 billion set in 2011. That included 205.2 million carats of natural rough and USD 18.7 billion of natural polished. Since 2020, total diamond trade through Dubai has grown 139% in value. DMCC describes Dubai as the world's largest trading hub for rough diamonds.
Dubai is also the country's single control point for rough stones. The UAE was the first Arab nation to join the Kimberley Process, in 2003, and DMCC is the only entry and exit point for rough diamonds in the country. In 2019 the UAE's Kimberley Process office became the first in the world to be ISO certified.
Now the honest part. None of that automatically makes a ring in a Dubai mall cheaper than the same ring elsewhere — a bourse trades wholesale, and a retail counter still sets its own margin. What it does mean is that the supply chain a Dubai buyer sits at the end of is short, well-regulated and traceable, and that the expertise to verify a stone is genuinely local. That is worth something real. It is just not a discount you get automatically by standing in the right emirate.
Where diamonds are actually sold in Dubai
The Gold Souk is in the Al Ras locality of Deira, near Baniyas Square on Sikkat Al Khail Street, and the UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism describes it as one of the oldest heritage souks in the emirate. Most shops open 10am to 10pm Saturday to Thursday, with many closing between 1pm and 4pm; Friday hours tend to run 4pm to 10pm. There is a Gold Souq station on the Metro's Green Line, opened in September 2011 and called Palm Deira until May 2020.
One detail there is worth more than the atmosphere: Dubai Municipality inspectors check the shops, verifying scales for accuracy and sending samples of gold and jewellery to a laboratory for testing. That is a real consumer protection, and it is specific to this market.
Beyond Deira, Gold & Diamond Park sits on Sheikh Zayed Road, reachable from Equiti station on the Red Line, with over 90 shops and workshops where you can watch artisans working — it is the place to go if you want bespoke rather than off-the-shelf. Meena Bazaar in Bur Dubai is the other traditional cluster. The malls carry the international chains, with Dubai Festival City Mall's own directory listing Al Romaizan, Damas, Jawhara, Habib and others. And in January 2026 Ithra Dubai launched the Dubai Gold District beside the existing souk, planned around more than 1,000 retailers and including what it describes as the world's first street constructed using gold.
We are not on any of those streets, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise. What follows is how to buy well whether you use them or not.
How to verify a diamond in Dubai
Dubai gives a buyer more independent verification than almost anywhere in the region, and most people never use it.
- GIA has a laboratory here. The GIA Laboratory DMCC opened on 19 February 2024 in Uptown Tower in the DMCC free zone, across two floors, offering diamond grading services locally. Grading is no longer something that only happens overseas.
- The Dubai Central Laboratory, part of Dubai Municipality, has been accredited by the UAE Ministry of Economy as the national reference laboratory for precious stones and metals since 2005. It holds CIBJO membership number 13 and was the first laboratory in the Middle East registered with that body, and it operates a public service for testing gemstones and precious metals. It also supports enforcement of Federal Regulation No. 9 of 1993 and Federal Law 11 of 2015.
- Bareeq is Dubai Municipality's Good Jewellery Trading Practice Certification — a voluntary endorsement that a jewellery outlet complies with its quality requirements. Worth asking a shop whether they hold it.
- Consumer complaints go to the Dubai Corporation for Consumer Protection and Fair Trade, established under Law No. 5 of 2023 and part of the Department of Economy and Tourism. Note that recourse follows the emirate that licensed the seller, not where you live.
Buying without walking into the souk
We have no showroom in Dubai. Instead: you tell us a budget or a stone, and we send the full laboratory certificate — including the cut grade and which laboratory issued it — with photographs or video of that specific diamond. You confirm the stone before anything is set. The quote is itemised: the stone, the metal, the making charge, and the 5% VAT and customs duty already inside the total.
The finished ring arrives by insured courier the day after dispatch, anywhere in Dubai. Stock rings dispatch within one to two working days; a made-to-order ring takes ten to fourteen working days from the moment you confirm the stone. If you are working to a proposal date, give us the date rather than the timeline and we will say plainly whether it is possible.
Ring size delays more orders than anything else, and for a surprise it is the hardest part to solve. Our size guide covers measuring a ring she already wears without asking, and a first resize within ninety days is included.
What to ask before you pay anyone in Dubai
- What is the cut grade? Not just carat, colour and clarity. On our own shelf, cut and grading lab explain a 49% spread between otherwise identical stones.
- Which laboratory graded it, and may I see the report before paying? GIA, IGI and HRD are all legitimate; an in-house or unnamed lab report is a marketing document.
- Is the report number inscribed on the diamond? That is what ties this stone to that certificate.
- What is the making charge, as its own number? The gold rate is published on DED signs; the labour is where quotes actually diverge.
- Is the 5% VAT inside this price, and is anything collected on delivery? For a domestic purchase: yes, and no.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a diamond engagement ring in Dubai?
A complete certified ring starts at AED 2,005. A one-carat centre stone starts at AED 2,240 lab-grown or AED 7,950 natural, both with 5% VAT and customs duty already included and insured delivery at no extra cost.
Are diamonds cheaper in Dubai?
Loose diamonds enter duty-free and Kimberley Process rough is exempt from the 5% import duty, so the structural position is favourable. But 5% VAT still applies at retail, and unlike gold there is no published daily diamond rate to check a quote against. The certificate, not the city, decides whether a price is fair.
Why do two one-carat diamonds cost such different amounts?
Cut grade and grading laboratory. In our live stock, three 1.01 carat pear diamonds all graded Colour D and Clarity SI1 are priced at AED 5,608, AED 7,128 and AED 8,344 — a 49% spread on identical headline specifications.
Where is the Gold Souk in Dubai?
In the Al Ras locality of Deira, near Baniyas Square on Sikkat Al Khail Street, with its own Gold Souq station on the Metro Green Line. Most shops trade 10am to 10pm Saturday to Thursday, many closing 1pm to 4pm, with Friday hours typically 4pm to 10pm.
Can I get a diamond independently verified in Dubai?
Yes. GIA opened a grading laboratory in Uptown Tower in the DMCC free zone in February 2024, and the Dubai Central Laboratory — a Dubai Municipality body and the UAE's national reference laboratory for precious stones since 2005 — offers a public gemstone and precious metal testing service.
Is Dubai really a major diamond centre?
Yes. Diamond trade through Dubai reached a record USD 41.7 billion across 359.5 million carats in 2025, and DMCC's Dubai Diamond Exchange is the only bourse in the GCC affiliated with the World Federation of Diamond Bourses. DMCC is also the only entry and exit point for rough diamonds in the country.
Is VAT included in your prices?
Yes. Every dirham figure on this page includes 5% UAE VAT and customs duty. There is nothing further to pay when the courier arrives.
How long does a made-to-order ring take?
Ten to fourteen working days from the moment you confirm the stone, plus one day for delivery. Stock rings dispatch within one to two working days.
