An oval diamond is a brilliant cut drawn out into an elongated outline that lengthens the look of the finger. The collection includes oval solitaires in prong, bezel, cathedral and twisted settings; halo, hidden-halo and scalloped-halo designs; three-stone rings with round, pear, marquise, baguette or trilliant side stones; pavé and split-shank bands; and an oval and pear toi et moi.
Every centre stone is graded colourless to near-colourless with VS1 to SI1 clarity and is independently certified, typically by GIA or IGI. When you choose an oval, look at the length-to-width ratio and the measurements on the grading report, and at the stone for a bow-tie: a darker band across the middle that some ovals show. You can check the report number on the laboratory's own website before you pay.
