Buying an engagement ring from Dubai, delivered to Australia
Plain answers to what Australian buyers ask us before they order: who we are, what you pay, how to check the diamond, how long it takes, and what happens if something is wrong.
Who we are
A jeweller in the United Arab Emirates
VYKA is the trading name of Vyka Trading FZE LLC, a company registered in the United Arab Emirates. We make engagement rings and fine jewellery in 18ct gold, set with natural diamonds graded by GIA or lab-grown diamonds graded by IGI, and sell online to customers in the Gulf and abroad, including Australia.
Dubai is one of the world's largest diamond trading centres. See the comparisons in our Australian price guide.
What you pay
One price, with duty and GST already paid
Australia charges GST at 10%, import duty where it applies and clearance charges on jewellery worth more than AUD 1,000 (Australian Border Force, GST on imports). On a parcel bought this way, the buyer would normally pay these before release.
With us you do not. We pay the duty, the GST and the clearance charges before the parcel leaves Dubai, and delivery is free. The price at checkout is the whole price.
Checkout charges UAE dirhams; your bank converts the amount to Australian dollars at its own rate. If you prefer, we can also send you an invoice on WhatsApp.
Checking the diamond
How to check the diamond before you pay
- Ask for the report number. Every diamond we sell has a grading report: GIA for natural diamonds, IGI for lab-grown.
- Look it up yourself. Enter the number on GIA Report Check or IGI's website. The report states the carat, colour, clarity and, for round stones, the cut.
- Keep it with the ring. The grading report is supplied with your ring.
- Lab-grown is always named. A lab-grown diamond is described as lab-grown on the listing, the invoice and the report.
Delivery
From order to your door
Every ring is made or prepared for you, then sent from Dubai by FedEx, insured and tracked, with a signature required on delivery. Allow 2 to 3 weeks from order confirmation for a catalogue ring and 3 to 4 weeks for a custom design. These are estimates, not fixed dates; we confirm yours when you order.
- Order confirmation. We confirm your order and your ring size with you.
- Making and checking. The ring is made or prepared, and checked before it is packed.
- Dispatch. Duty and GST are paid, the parcel leaves Dubai with FedEx, insured, and you receive the tracking number.
- Delivery. A signature is required; the parcel is not left unattended.
For a Christmas proposal, confirm a catalogue ring by the end of November, or a custom design by mid-November.
Returns and your rights
If you change your mind, or something is wrong
Eligible pieces can be returned within 21 days of delivery for a change of mind, unworn and with their certificate. Return postage to us is yours. Made-to-order, resized and engraved pieces are not covered by the change-of-mind return. If a piece arrives faulty, wrong or damaged, we repair, replace, exchange or refund it after inspection. Nothing in our policies limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, which applies to overseas businesses that sell to people in Australia (ACCC). The full terms are in our refund policy.
Before you decide
What is different about buying from us
- You will not try it on first. We have no Australian showroom, so we confirm your size carefully before the ring is made.
- Our change-of-mind window is 21 days, and return postage is yours. Several Australian chains offer 30 days.
- We do not offer Afterpay or Zip. Payment is by card at checkout, or by invoice.
- The time difference. We are 7 hours behind Sydney, so replies come in your afternoon and evening.
- What you gain: 18ct gold as standard, a GIA or IGI report you can check yourself, and prices well below Australian shops, with duty and GST already paid.
