The malls are a shorter and more checkable list. Malabar Gold & Diamonds has two RAK showrooms, one on Muntazir Road and one in RAK Mall on Khuzam Road. Damas lists three: Manar Mall, Hamra Mall and Al Naeem City Center. Al Romaizan has the Gold Souk branch on Al Kuwait Street plus one at Al Manar Shopping Center. Manar Mall itself sits on the downtown waterfront looking out over the mangroves and carries more than 120 stores in total across every category; Al Naeem Mall is in the heart of the city on the banks of the harbour.
That is genuinely a market — but it is a small one, and the comparison a RAK buyer is implicitly making is against Deira, where the Dubai Gold Souk alone holds several hundred jewellery traders in a few connected lanes. Fewer shops does not mean worse prices. It does mean fewer quotes to compare a quote against, and comparison is the only real defence a diamond buyer has.
"Zero making charge" — what it means, and what the catch is
This is the phrase people in Ras Al Khaimah type into Google more than almost any other jewellery term, so it deserves a straight answer rather than a sales one.
Every gold price in the UAE is built the same way: the gold value — the weight of the piece multiplied by that day's rate for that purity — plus a separate making charge covering the labour of manufacturing it. The making charge is quoted per gram, and according to Tawhid Abdullah, chairman of the Dubai Jewellery Group, it ranges across the market from about AED 3 a gram to AED 30 a gram. On a ring of any weight that spread is the difference between a fair price and a poor one, and it is invisible unless the shop separates it out for you.
Zero-making-charge offers are real. They are not a myth invented by shoppers, and Gulf News has reported that weekend promotions increasingly advertise them. The catch is equally documented, and it is worth knowing before you plan a Saturday around one:
- The offers cluster on weekends rather than running continuously.
- Most qualifying pieces are under five grams — light chains, small pendants, thin bands — rather than the substantial pieces people picture.
- Qualifying stock is often older inventory the shop is clearing.
- Jewellers themselves say running zero making charges every day is not commercially possible, because every retailer pays the same wholesale gold price and cannot trade without a margin somewhere.
None of that makes the promotions dishonest. It makes them narrow. And it points at the more useful question, which is not "can I get the making charge to zero" but "will you show me the making charge at all". A seller who states it as its own line has given you something you can compare against another seller's number. A seller who folds it into one total has not.
One more thing worth knowing: 5% VAT applies to gold jewellery in the UAE, and it applies to both the gold value and the making charge. The exception is investment-grade gold of 99% purity or higher in bar or coin form, which is a different product from a ring.

Is it worth driving to Deira?
The Ras Al Khaimah tourism authority puts Dubai at roughly 110 kilometres away, about an hour and a half to two hours by road on the E11. Dubai International is closer, around 85 kilometres and about forty-five minutes. Those are the official figures; you will hear faster times quoted, and they generally assume a clear road at a quiet hour rather than a Thursday evening.
So the honest arithmetic on a day trip to the Gold Souk is most of a day, fuel and tolls both ways, and a decision made standing up in a crowded lane under lighting designed to flatter stones. What you get for it is several hundred shops to compare — which matters enormously for gold, where the rate is public and the only variable is the making charge, and matters far less for diamonds, where there is no published rate and two stones of identical weight can differ threefold in price on colour, clarity and cut alone.
Put plainly: the drive is a good idea if you are buying gold by weight, and a much weaker one if you are buying a diamond. For a diamond, what protects you is the certificate and a written breakdown, and both of those travel to Ras Al Khaimah perfectly well without you.
