One jewellery brand in the emirate's main mall
Mall of UAQ is the emirate's principal shopping centre, on the main highway, Al Shuwaib Road / E55. Its own online store directory lists exactly one brand under Jewellery & Watches: Malabar Gold & Diamonds, on the ground floor. Stores there trade 10:00 to 22:00.
Outside the mall there is a genuine but small local trade — Taiba Jewellers on King Faisal Road in Al Reqqah is a real Umm Al Quwain jewellery shop, and King Faisal Road is where jewellery addresses in the emirate tend to sit. But the scale of it is best captured by an odd, telling detail: search a UAE jewellers directory filtered to Umm Al Quwain and it returns shops in Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain instead. The filter finds so little locally that it reaches into other emirates to fill the page.
Two more things worth knowing before you drive anywhere. Joyalukkas opened a showroom at Mall of UAQ back in July 2018, but it does not appear in the mall's current store directory — we could not establish whether it is still trading, so treat it as worth a phone call rather than a journey. And Kalyan Jewellers, with twenty-two branches across the country as of June 2025, lists them in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah — but not here. When a chain that size has opened in five emirates and skipped this one, that is the market telling you something plainly.
Nor could we establish that a gold souq exists here at all. Umm Al Quwain has an old souq that appears in travel listings, but none of them mentions gold, and no official source attests a gold market. We would rather tell you that than imply a destination that may not be there.

Practical notes for actually going
If you do shop locally, two details are worth having in advance. Stores at Mall of UAQ trade 10:00 to 22:00, seven days a week, with the restaurants and food court open later. Taiba Jewellers on King Faisal Road keeps a traditional split day and closes between 13:30 and 16:30 — turning up at three in the afternoon is a wasted trip, and it is the kind of thing no directory listing puts in front of you.
It is also worth calibrating how small this market genuinely is, because it explains everything above. Umm Al Quwain is the least populated emirate in the country, covering roughly 720 square kilometres — about one per cent of the UAE's land area. The last population figure published on the official UAE government platform is 49,159, and it is from the December 2005 census; no newer official emirate-level count has been published since. We are quoting a twenty-year-old number because it is the only official one there is, which is itself a fair indication of the scale we are talking about.
The emirate's own economy runs on other things. Fishing is a key contributor, with seafood exported to Europe and the Middle East; there is Ahmed Bin Rashid Port and a free trade zone; and Dreamland Aqua Park here is described by the UAE government as the country's largest water park. Umm Al Quwain has been ruled by Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mualla since 2 January 2009. What it does not have — and has never especially needed — is a jewellery district.
What being here does and does not change about the price
Gold is quoted as a single nationwide rate in the UAE, not per emirate. So being in Umm Al Quwain does not make the metal in a ring cost more or less than it does in Deira. What differs is only the making charge — the labour, quoted per gram — and how far you are willing to travel to compare one.
For a diamond, distance matters even less than that, and it is worth understanding why. There is no published diamond rate anywhere. Two stones of identical carat weight can differ threefold on colour, clarity and cut, and no amount of walking between counters resolves that — it is resolved by an independent laboratory report, by the report number inscribed on the stone itself, and by a price written down in parts. Those are the same wherever you stand, which is genuinely good news if you live in the emirate with the fewest counters.
The oldest pearling town in the Gulf is here
Worth saying on a page about buying precious stones, because it is a real and rather extraordinary fact about this place. On Al Sinniyah Island, off the Umm Al Quwain coast, archaeologists found the oldest known pearling town in the Arabian Gulf — announced in March 2023, a twelve-hectare settlement dating from the late sixth or early seventh century. On the same island sits a Christian monastery dated to between the late sixth and mid-eighth century AD, its discovery announced by the emirate's own Department of Tourism and Archaeology.
The emirate also has the Ed-Dur site, on the UAE's UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List since 30 January 2012 — a candidate rather than an inscribed site, and worth stating precisely. Its most important building is a rectangular temple, roughly eight metres by eight and a third, its walls still standing over two metres high, preserved by the sand dunes around it.
Al Sinniyah Island itself runs nearly ten kilometres and is a habitat for seagulls and flamingos among the mangroves, which stretch more than seven kilometres along this coast. Umm Al Quwain's name comes from Umm Al Quwatain — "two powers", meaning its activity on land and on water — and fishing still contributes materially to the economy here, with seafood exported across Europe and the Middle East.
So this is a place with a long history in the trade of precious things from the sea. What it does not have, today, is a diamond counter — which is a much narrower gap, and one that a courier closes.
