Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Diamond Quality Checker work?

Enter the specifications from any diamond grading report — shape, colour, clarity, table %, depth %, and other details. Our evaluation engine compares each parameter against shape-specific ideal ranges used by professional diamond buyers. You get an instant verdict: Strong Candidate, Good on Paper (review video), or Not a Strong Pick.

Where do I find these numbers?

Every certified diamond comes with a grading report from a lab like GIA, IGI, HRD Antwerp, or GCAL. The report lists the 4Cs (carat, cut, colour, clarity), proportions (table %, depth %, crown angle, pavilion angle), and finish grades (polish, symmetry, girdle, culet, fluorescence). Enter those numbers here. You can also use our Certificate Verifier to look up any certificate first.

Can I check diamonds from other retailers?

Absolutely. This tool works with any diamond from any source — online retailers, local jewellers, or private sellers. Just enter the specs from the grading report and the checker evaluates the stone objectively.

What does each verdict mean?

Strong Candidate means the diamond's proportions and grades are all within the ideal range for its shape — a solid buy on paper. Good on Paper, but Review Video means most specs are fine but one or two are borderline — watch the diamond video before deciding. Not a Strong Pick means one or more key measurements fall outside the recommended range for that shape.

What are ideal ranges and why do they differ by shape?

Different diamond shapes reflect light differently, so the proportions that produce the best visual performance vary. For example, a round brilliant performs best with a table of 54-57% and depth of 61-62.5%, while an oval looks best at 56-60% table and 60-63% depth. Our ranges are based on industry standards and professional diamond-buying experience.

Is this tool free?
